Kathmandu, Feb. 5: Construction of Malla-era falcha (traditional resting place) and other structures around the Ranipokhari has reached the final stage.
Construction of a round house with falcha, entrance gate and ticket counter has almost completed near the overhead bridge of Jamal, said Ram Bahadur Thapa, chief of City Development Department of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC).

Major construction works of all structures have completed, and we are now giving a final touch to them, he said. Reconstruction of the two other falchas of the same era, one at Shanti Batika of Ratna Park and another near Jamal, has almost completed, leaving only finishing works, which will be completed within a month, he added.

The National Reconstruction Authority has already handed over the main pond area with Balgopaleshwor temple to the KMC. But the areas surrounding the historical pond have not, as the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction of the Ministry of Urban Development is still rebuilding the structures there.

He said that the department would also hand over it to KMC after completing the remaining works within a month. The entrance gate has been constructed in the model of traditional house structure of Kathmandu and falcha style.
Falcha has been one of the major parts of Ranipokhari. The falcha is popular as ‘golpati’ among the locals.

Ranipokhari will open for general public after completing all remaining works but KMC will take the final decision on it after all structures are handed over, he said.
The structures are being constructed as per the concept of Department of Archeology, KMC and local people.
Jagat Narayan temple is also being built in the northern part of Ranipokhari in a traditional style with a water spout.
