Kathmandu, May 27: Nagarjun Municipality, Kathmandu has brought a 270-bed upgraded isolation centre with facility of oxygen supply into operation.
The isolation centre was brought into operation at Ward No. 1 of the municipality at a building constructed by the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction.
"At a time when many isolation centres across the country are in dilapidated condition, our municipality has brought the isolation centre into operation with an upgraded facility equipped with oxygen supply for 24 hours," Mayor Mohan Bahadur Basnet said.
The isolation centre was possible following a tripartite agreement between the municipality, Nepal Chartered Accountants Association, and Pradip Poudel, a youth leader of Nepali Congress, according to Mayor Basnet.
According to Mayor Basnet, the municipality ensures healthy food for all the occupants with all other basic facilities. We have been providing food, medical needs such as medicines, oxygen and ambulance service free of cost.
Rameshwor Lama, a ward member, said that while the holding centre prioritises locals, everyone infected from across the districts can get admission here.
Lama expressed his belief that the isolation centre will play a vital role in bringing the number of people infected with the virus down.
Of the total beds, 50 beds have been allocated exclusively for locals of the municipality, Lama said.
