Kathmandu, Sept. 18 :A large number of female journalists working in the private sector have lost their jobs and faced salary cuts due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Senior journalists participating in a virtual interaction on ‘Role of female journalist and challenges facing them in the COVID-19 crisis’ organised by Sancharika Samuha, have said although majority of the journalists across the country are facing professional insecurity, more female journalists have lost their jobs to COVID-19.
Speaking at the programme on Wednesday, journalist Arati Chataut said although ‘work from home’ was being practised in many media houses, the female journalists had found ‘work from home’ more challenging.
“They have to manage multiple jobs at a time while working from home, such as running household responsibilities, and attending their children during the duty hours among others,” she said.
Similarly, journalist Krishna Poudel said that women entrepreneurs who had invested in media were facing financial crisis due to the pandemic. Poudel said the government should focus on the policy that encourages women to invest and lead the media.
Sancharika Samuha’s President Nitu Pandit said that they were thinking about the fund to support those female media persons who lost their jobs to the COVID-19.
