Meanwhile, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has predicted that the weather will remain cold until Saturday.

Barun Poudel, a senior meteorologist at the DHM, said that isolated brief rain was expected at a few places of Province 1, Bagmati Province and Gandaki Province and at one or two places of Madhes Province and Lumbini Province tonight. Chances of light snowfall were also high at a few places of the high hilly and mountainous regions.

According to Poudel, the country would experience the effect of a western low-pressure system, which is entering Nepal from the west on Wednesday night, resulting in the normal to full cloud cover in Sudurpaschim Province, Karnali Province, Lumbini Province and Gandaki Province and partial to normal cloud cover in Bagmati Province, Madhes and Province No. 1 till Friday.

Light snowfall is expected in most parts of the high hills and mountains of Sudurpaschim Province, Karnali, Lumbini and Gandaki, and in some parts of the high hills and mountains of Bagmati and Province 1 on Thursday, according to the DHM.
On Friday, light to moderate snowfall is expected in many parts of the country’s high hills and mountains. There is a possibility of light to moderate rain with thunderstorms/hail in most parts of the hilly and Terai areas of the country and heavy rain in one or two places in Gandaki and Lumbini provinces.

There is a possibility of light to moderate snowfall in some places of the high hilly and mountainous terrain of Gandaki Province, Bagmati Province and Province 1 on Saturday and light to moderate rain in some places of the hilly and Terai region of the province. Since Sunday, the weather is expected to gradually improve, Poudel said.

The DHM also requested to take necessary precautions to avoid the effects of cold and snowfall as the weather system may affect daily life of the people including airspace, mountaineering, agriculture and transportation.
