Kathmandu, Nov. 17: People wishing to apply for a driver’s licence will now only be able to do so outside of office hours.
Issuing a press release on Monday, Spokesperson for the Department of Transport Management (DoTM) Dr. Lok Nath Bhusal informed that the online application system would not be operational from 10 am to 5 pm.
“We decided to shut the system down during office hours because the excessive load was impacting other licence-related services provided by the DoTM,” Bhusal said in the release.
The DoTM uses the same online system to receive applications from service-seekers as well as carry out its official tasks related to driving licences.
Presently, the large number of applications received every day has increased the load on the system which, in turn, has delayed other works to be carried out by the Department and the transport management offices under it.
That is why the Department will not be accepting applications during office hours.
However, Bhusal stressed that this provision was only temporary. “Once we are able to effectively manage the load, we will repeal this prohibition and people will be able to apply for a driver’s licence as unhindered as before,” he was quoted in the press release issued by the DoTM.
Until then though, people can only fill out the online application in the morning and evening.
