Kaski rural municipalities building roads

By Smita Adhikari

Pokhara, Feb. 14 : To facilitate people’s movement from one ward to another, rural municipalities across Kaski have started constructing road infrastructures.

In lack of proper roads, people have been facing a lot of problems travelling within and across various local levels of the district.

"People have to spend an entire day to come to the rural municipality office and it takes an excruciatingly long time to reach the ward offices too," Rupa Rural Municipality chair Nava Raj Ojha said. He also informed, “This rural municipality has started constructing roads to connect all seven wards at a total estimated cost of Rs. 32 million.”

Similarly, Annapurna Rural Municipality has been building a motorable ring road. "The 72-kilometre ring road will be completed by the end of this fiscal year," shared Annapurna Chairman Yuva Raj Kunwar.

The road projects are expected to make life easier for the locals and make it easier for them to come to the rural municipality office, transport their produce to the market, reach the health posts quickly in emergency situations and expand access to public transportation.

"The absence of good roads has been holding us back in our development,” Vice-Chairperson of Machhapuchhre Rural Municipality Krishna Kumari Dawadi said.

The rural municipalities have managed the budget for the roads themselves.
