Gambling Our Future

Yashashwi Bhandari

Human beings are progressive by nature. They are constantly in search of advanced technologies that may eventually help us in the near future. During this process of advancement, some technologies may work perfectly while others can have longer lasting negative effects. So, as no one can behold the future, investing in such technologies is like a risky game of poker where our ideologies and strategies may work for or against us.
In the past, physical and laborious works were regarded as major occupations. But with technological advancement, one can do less manual works by sitting at home in front of a screen. Now people have chosen these jobs as their major occupational sources. But this advancement has led to laziness, tiredness and lack of physical exercises in people. This has also caused the so-called modern era diseases like obesity, mental stress, high blood pressure, depression, anxiety, etc.
The modern devices have also been harming the social life of human beings as most people are reserved nowadays and limit their social skills only to their homes and offices and try to avoid human interaction outside. People feel safe communicating through modern tools where face to face communication is not required. But in the previous times, with no such use of modern communication devices, people were forced to interact in order to get their jobs done making them more social and outgoing in nature. While we were focused on bringing convenience to our life by shifting our manual hardships to blue screens in the name of advancement, we seem to have totally ignored its long lasting effects on our lives.
In the past, we risked the social and physical qualities of humans in the name of modernisation. Now, the question is what other qualities will slowly rust along with time as neonatal ideologies start to immerge. It is clear that strategic advancement worked for some period of time for betterment. But it now has become an enemy for the human race, proving humans to be gamblers of future.
When we think about the future, we focus on science and technology. Science has always been an astonishing factor to humankind. Surprising us with either fruitful or negative out-turns, technologies have proven to be either a boon or bane. Advancement in science is the process for finding a sustainable society for our future generation where we risk and experiment with the present era. It is a dicey game of evolution.
While playing this game what strategies people apply and what risk they take will directly align with the results that are to be obtained. A wise solution for now may not work as a sustainable idea in the forthcoming time. Nobody knows what lasting effects this gambling will have and whether it will sustain or slowly deteriorate the future society.
