By TRN Online, Kathmandu, July 14: Department of Transport Management (DoTM) has increased the fare of the long-route public transport, issuing a notice three days after the Department got consent for the same from former Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Basant Nembang.
The Department took a decision to hike the fare on Tuesday and enforce it from the same day but issued the notice on Wednesday, today.
The fare has been hiked by 20 to 28 per cent depending on the type of vehicles: passenger bus 28%, goods carrier in the hills 20% and goods carrier in the Terai 26%, according to the notice issued by Dr. Loknath Bhusal, director and spokesperson of the Department of Transport Management.
The Department said that the fare hike was made based on the market study and analysis relating to investment and expenditure of public transport operation and as per the consultations with the stakeholders.
