By A Staff Reporter
Kathmandu, Nov. 13: The high-level committee formed to investigate the alleged irregularities in the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) has submitted its report to Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.
The committee, led by Minister for Health and Population Birodh Khatiwada, who is also the pro-chancellor of the Institute, submitted the report to the Prime Minister, who is the chancellor, on Friday.
The report concludes that the BPKIHS officials abused their authority, acted improperly and committed financial irregularities, informed Tilak Rai, mayor of Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City and member of the investigation committee. He added that the Institute’s senate would hold a meeting soon and act on the findings of the report.

Specifically highlighting the improper conduct of Dr. Gyanendra Giri, vice chancellor of BPKIHS, Rai said that the senate would take action against officials found guilty of wrongdoing.
The health workers and employees of BPKIHS have been protesting for a long time demanding the dismissal of high-ranking officials. Six members of the senate had also submitted a written request to Health Minister Khatiwada after which the investigation committee was formed on October 22.

Vice Chancellor Giri, Rector Prof. Dr. Guru Prasad Khanal, Registrar Dr. Mohan Chandra Regmi and Director Dr. Gaurishankar Sah are accused of embezzling millions of rupees while purchasing health materials and constructing physical infrastructure. The investigation committee had earlier asked the accused officials to furnish clarifications but it states that they were not able to provide satisfactory explanations. It is to be noted Registrar Regmi has already tendered his resignation which has been approved.
