Dhangadhi, Jan. 6: Normal life in the Terai, including Kailali, has been hit hard by the biting cold. People from deprived communities, children and the elderly have been mostly affected.
To keep themselves from the plummeting temperature, people are seen gathering around campfires made at a number of places to ward off the cold.

Raj Kumar Bishwakarma of Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolis-8, who has been working as a builder, said that his regular work was being affected due to the cold. "It's very difficult to build a house because of the chilling cold," he said. Students are facing hard time attending the schools due to the unbearable cold in the Terai areas.

According to Bishnu Devi Chaudhary, a local, students are facing problems coming to school due to harsh winter. “My son has been facing difficulty attending morning classes,” she said.
Health professionals have advised people to take precautions to avoid colds as the number of people suffering from pneumonia is increasing in the hospitals. Health workers have asked people to stay indoors to avoid cold and cold-related problems.

Bharat Bahadur Khati, Senior Assistance Health Worker and in-charge of the Emergency Department of Seti Provincial Hospital, said that health problems such as pneumonia, colds, asthma, bronchitis and heart attack are increasing due to the biting cold.
Meanwhile, farmers are suffering due to the loss of vegetable crops which are perishing in the deadly cold, especially the mustard crops and potatoes.

Similarly, the ward office of Kailari Rural Municipality-3 in Kailali on Wednesday distributed blankets to persons with disabilities including senior citizens and single women to keep themselves warm.
Ward Chairperson Kailash Prasad Chaudhary informed that blankets were distributed to the target group including senior citizens of the ward under the programme.
