Women’s cooperatives supply goats worth Rs. 35 million in Dashain

Kawaswoti (Nawalpur) Oct. 10: Three cooperatives of Nawalpur sold goats worth Rs. 35 million during Dashain festival.
Cooperatives had sold goats collected from farmers in Dashain market held in collection centres of cooperatives.
Lekbeshi Samajik Udhaymi Mahila Cooperatives located at Jhyalbash of Hupsekot Rural Municipality alone sold goats worth Rs. 28 million from its collection centre.
Sushila Pariyar, manager of Lekbeshi Samajik Udhaymi Mahila Cooperatives, said that it sold 2,763 goats from its collection centre in nine days starting from Ghatasthapana to Mahanawami.
Most of the goats sold by the cooperatives were collected from hilly areas of Hupsekot Rural Municipality, she said.
Goats supplied by cooperatives were sold to local buyers as well as traders coming from Chitwan, Pokhara and Kathmandu, Pariyar said.
The Lekbeshi Cooperatives is selling goats collected from farmers for the last five years by taking nominal profit. Due to the service of cooperatives, goats reared by farmers have got easy access to the market and consumers and traders have been saved from deceits.
Similarly, Mainaghat Samajik Udhaymi Mahila Cooperative of Mainaghat sold goats worth Rs. 2.5 million during Dashain festival.
Manju Khanal, chairperson of the cooperative, said that they sold goats at relatively low price during Dashain by taking very nominal profit.
“We sold live goats at a rate of Rs. 460 per kilogram by purchasing them at Rs. 450 from farmers. The price of live goats in the local market was around Rs. 550 per kilogram during Dashain,” Khanal said.
Another Arun Jyoti Samajik Mahila Udhaymi Cooperatives located at Tamashpur of Madhyabindu Municipality also sold goats worth Rs. 4.5 million during Dashain festival.
