Janakpurdham, July 12 : The Nepal Bidyapati Maithili Language-Literature Prize for this year has been presented to Chandra Shekhar Upadhyaya of Dhanusa. The prize given by the Bidyapati Prize Trust, established by the government, carries a purse of Rs 200,000.
Upadhyaya was honoured with the prize in recognition of his long contribution to the advancement of Maithili culture, civilization, language and literature.
Chief of Province no. 2 Tilak Pariyar presented the prize to Upadhyaya at a function held here on Saturday. Likewise, the Nepal Bidyapati Maithili research prize was presented to Dinesh Yadav of Saptari. It carries a purse of rs. 100,000.
Furthermore, the Nepal Bidyapati Maithili Pandulipi prize was presented to Bhagat Nagbansi of Dhanusa, the Nepal Bidyapati Mathili translation prize to Shivanarayan Pandit of Sunsari and Nepal Bidyapati Maithili art and culture prize to Laxman Mandal of Dhanusa. They also bagged a cash prize of Rs. 100,000 each.
The prize distribution ceremony was chaired by the Chairperson of the Trust Dr Ram Sagar Pandit.
