Kathmandu, Sept. 10: Police have arrested three individuals with 11,800 ampules of several pharmaceutical drugs from Bhaktapur on Tuesday.
Acting upon a special tipoff, a team from the Metropolitan Crime Division and Metropolitan Police Range, Bhaktapur was in search of a container, which they found along the Araniko Highway.
According to the division, the container (Naa 3 Kha 989) was parked on the side of the highway in Sallahghari.
When the team reached the site, they nabbed two individuals – Bishnu Pradhan, 36, and Dambar Bahadur Pradhan, 37. The duo are permanent residents of Sindhupalchok.
“The team found two bags hidden below the seats. Within the bag were the illegal pharmaceutical drugs smuggled in to the Valley for selling,” read a press statement of the division.
The statement states that the police confiscated 2,950 ampules of Diazepam; 3,000 ampules of Nitravet; 2,950 ampules of Promathazine; 1,500 ampules of Buprenorphine and 1,400 ampules of Noophin.
After the team confiscated the drugs and arrested the duo, they began their preliminary investigation. During the interrogation, police also found out about another individual involved with them in smuggling, sale and distribution of the drugs.
Police then arrested Shankar Khadka, 32, from Budanilakantha for his involvement with the duo.
The three individuals are currently in the custody of Metropolitan Police Range, Bhaktapur for further investigation and legal procedure.
Senior officers working in the narcotics sector have been saying that the trend of pharmaceutical drugs consumption is increasing among the youths recently.
Nepal Police had confiscated 209,407 ampules of several pharmaceutical drugs from different parts of the country in 2019.
