Kathmandu, Aug. 12: Nepal Students' Union (NSU), the student wing of Nepali Congress, vandalised the offices of the Vice-Chancellor (VC), registrar and rector of the Tribhuvan University (TU) on Tuesday.
The students group has vandalised three offices and a vehicle of the VC's office blaming that the TU officials did not sit for dialogue with them. Although police arrested NSU carders after the vandalism, the central leaders of NSU denied their involvement in the incident.
Rajeev Dhungana, president of the NSU, said that the TU administration made forceful arrests of their friends while they went to meet the officials to talk about alternative classes, internal evaluations and online examinations during this pandemic.
Although the students denied their involvement, window panes of the offices were smashed while a vehicle also suffered damage in the attack.
Surya Prasad Adhikari, information department head of the TU, condemned the acts of students by issuing a press statement. Adhikari appealed to the students to sit for dialogue for genuine demands rather than resorting to vandalism.
The students had earlier padlocked the TU offices, the VC office. The TU had then lodged a case against secretary of the NSU's TU committee Yogendra Rawal. The offices were opened after the Patan High Court ordered they be opened.
The central committee and TU committee of NSU earlier had repeatedly handed over memorandum to TU demanding that CPN cadres should not be recruited in the TU.
