Kathmandu, Oct. 14: Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens Parbat Gurung has formally announced the formation of the 'Social Entrepreneurship Fund' (SEF) aiming to make the work of the social sector more effective.
Minister Gurung announced the formation of the ‘Fund’ at a programme organised by the Social Welfare Council on Tuesday.
Speaking at the programme, Minister Gurung said that the SEF was formed to make the work of the social sector more effective and to contribute to the prosperity of the country through social entrepreneurship.
According to the Social Welfare Council, the SEF has been established according to the Social Welfare Act 2049, Article 9 (e) and Article 26.
Minister Gurung, who is also the chairperson of the council, expressed confidence that the SEF would play an important role in making the role of the social sector more effective and removing negative attitude towards associations and institutions.
He also pointed out the need for taking the social entrepreneurship campaign as a ‘social campaign’ to every village.
He further said that the universities should also promote social entrepreneurship through their educational programmes.
Vice chairman of the Council Dr. Padam Prasad Khatiwada said that a social entrepreneurship fund was needed to make every social organisation self-reliant.
The council has appointed board member Sushil Gyawali as the coordinator of the SEF while Kamal Prasad Niraula, Dr. Rosie Joshi, Arjun Bhattarai, Shanta Neupane, Nara Bahadur Rokaya, Dr. Sunil Chitrakar, Prakriti Mainali and Jitendra Paswan as members.
At the programme, Minister Gurung handed over a letter of responsibility to the newly appointed coordinator and members.
