Kathmandu, Mar. 20: Candidates of Secondary Education Examination (SEE) and other stakeholders have expressed mixed reactions to the government decision to postpone the exam, with some worrying about the deferral and others hailing the decision.
The government postponed SEE on Wednesday, just hours before it was to begin.
Many students said they were afraid of forgetting the contents they had read. They also said if the examination had completed in prescheduled time, they would have been free from stress.
But the postponement has bored us, they said.
Sakshyam Adhikari, a SEE examinee, said as the examination centre and school had asked him to manage mask, sanitizer and water. He was ready to take the examination with caution. And the seat plan in the exam center was made maintaining a distance, Adhikari said.
Like Adhikari, Akshyata Khanal, another examinee from Bhaktapur, expressed her worry that she might lose from memory what she had prepared for the examination. Adhikari said she had already made sufficient preparations for SEE.
Though many students were worried by the postponement of the examination, many guardians looked happy over the decision.
Yam Bahadur Adhikari, father of Sumitra Adhikari, a SEE candidate in Chitwan, said the government decision was good at a time when mass gatherings were prohibited.
However, Adhikari expressed his dissatisfaction over taking the decision to postpone the exam at the last minute.
Purna Gautam, chair of Teachers’ Union of State-1, said the government decision was a welcome move for taking precaution against the pandemic virus. The last hour decision has badly impacted the students psychologically and economically.
The government seemed immature in taking the decision to postpone the exam just 10 hours prior to the beginning of the exam, which has badly affected the students of remote areas, Gautam added.
