By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Aug. 2: The Supreme Court has upheld the party action over four CPN (UML) lawmakers in the Karnali Provincial assembly by nullifying its interim order against the party punishment.
The UML had removed the four lawmakers as punishment for their defiance in relation to providing the vote of confidence to Karnali Chief Minister Mahendra Bahadur Shahi. The UML had issued a whip not to vote for Shahi.
Following the action, the lawmakers had appealed to the SC which had issued an interim order and reinstated them as lawmakers.
A joint bench of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana and justice Prakash Kumar Dhungana today upheld the decision of the UML's general convention organising committee to remove them from lawmakers.
Provincial assembly lawmakers Prakash Jwala, Ammar Bahadur Thapa, Nand Singh Budha and Kurma Raj Shahi had crossed the floor and voted for CM Shashi during the vote of trust in the assembly.
UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli had appealed to the SC for vacating of the interim order.
