Kathmandu, Aug. 8: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has drawn the attention of the Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to arrange proper relief assistance and rehabilitation of the families affected by the recent devastating Melamchi flood.
A delegation led by party chairman Pashupati Shumser JB Rana on Saturday handed over a memorandum to the Prime Minister at his official residence in Baluwatar.
The delegation urged the government to come up with a relief package promptly for flood survivors in Panchpokhari Rural Municipality, Helambu Rural Municipality and Melamchi Municipality, said Rana.
The memorandum also demanded the rehabilitation of those displaced by the disaster in a safer place, making arrangements of compensation and restoring the beauty of Melamchi.
The party also sought the reconstruction of damaged structures such as bridges, academic institutions, and the power supply system.
Similarly, RPP has demanded with the government to identify the cause of regular flooding in the district with the help of an expert and relocate the disaster-prone settlements to safer places.
In response, Prime Minister Deuba assured that the government was committed to providing proper relief and rehabilitation for the flood victims.
