Biratnagar, Jan. 27: The provincial government has blacktopped the road from Pushpalalchok to Biratchok in Biratnagar. Expansion and upgrading of the four-lane road has almost completed.
The contractors said that they had worked well from the allocation and would complete remaining tasks immediately after they received payments from the government.
The provincial government had signed with two different construction companies - Shrestha Construction and Lama-Baniya JV for the construction of the road. The first company would construct 20 kilometres and another would build a bridge and the road in the remaining two kilometre stretch.
The road project is a pride project of the provincial government. Construction of almost 10 kilometres road completed in the first phase and the government targets completing another 10 kilometre by coming April.
Ujjwankrishna Manandhar, site-engineer of the construction company ‘Shrestha Construction’, said that most of the upgrading and expansion works had already completed. “Some of the electricity-polls placed by Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) have created obstruction in the construction works,” he said.
He further said the technicians were busy in black-topping of the road after they finished structuring the project. According to him, the government completed 60 per cent construction of the Rs. 60 million road project.
Both the parties, the government and the contractor, had agreed to complete all the tasks before July this year in the MoU they signed. Lama-Baniya JV has to construct two kilometre road from Pushpalalchok to Ghinaghat with a bridge. “Lama-Baniya JV will construct two kilometre road with a bridge in it not exceeding the expenses Rs. 38 million,” read the contract.
This part is under gravel phase now. The contractor has only prepared the base for the bridge till date.
Rajan Raj Reddi, chief of Infrastructure Office here, said that the 22 kilometres road project was a pride project of the provincial government where they spent 60 per cent of the allocated amount. “Constructing 20 kilometre road will complete by April and the bridge and remaining two kilometre road will complete by July,” he added.
Bharat Karki, project manager for the road from Netachok to Milanchok, said that they were colouring the road as all the construction had competed.
