By Gokul Parajuli, Biratnagar, Nov. 16: The meeting of the Province 1 Assembly has been adjourned without entering any agenda as the provincial lawmakers of the main opposition CPN (UML) remained absent in the meeting.
Speaker of the Provincial Assembly Pradip Kumar Bhandari announced the meeting adjourned until 11:30 am tomorrow because the UML lawmakers were absent in the meeting.
The Speaker has, meanwhile, issued a ruling for the main opposition UML to be present in the meeting tomorrow as a proposal on a vote of confidence is to be tabled.
Chief Minister Rajendra Rai had on Nov. 14 registered a proposal at the parliament secretariat seeking a vote of confidence from the assembly today and made preparations accordingly.
The UML had, however, urged for postponing the meeting for a few days in the meeting of the business advisory committee of the assembly held today itself. The other parties had dismissed the UML urge.
Although there is no provision in provincial assembly rules for the mandatory presence of the opposition party to run the assembly meeting, the Speaker adjourned the meeting upholding parliamentary tradition and practices.
