Salyan, May 30 : Prem Khadka of Chhatreswori Rural Municipality-2 in Salyan district, who has been involved in raising awareness on prevention and treatment of the coronavirus pandemic since late April by going from one house to another, has now reached all households in all wards of the municipality.
He has been distributing soaps, face masks, free medicines to them, and advising them on health check-ups and treatment. In addition to that, he has been helping patients to meet with the health workers.
Nim Bahadur KC, chairman of Darma Rural Municipality, also reaches the wards alongside a team of health workers, who have been mobilised to carry out the antigen test to identify the infected people. He then motivates the infected to fight with the virus, saying they can beat it if they battle with confidence. To those not infected, he advises to follow the health safety protocol so that they can keep the virus at bay.
Like KC, almost all other people's representatives in the district have been doing the same.
Similarly, Chhatreswori Rural Municipality Chairman Santosh KC said that out of 511 people tested in all wards of the municipality, 92 tested positive for the virus. According to him, five people are being treated in an isolation centre set up by the rural municipality.
Likewise, Ward Chairman of Bagchaur Municipality-6, Bhupendra Oli, said that they have been visiting the houses in the ward to contain the virus’s spread. Those suffering from fever, cold and other health issues are being sent to the treatment centre set up by the municipality, he said.
The infection rate is on the rise at the local level, so local representatives are doing the needful to contain it before it reaches epic proportions. Besides, they want to make people feel that the government is with them.
Suresh Adhikari, mayor of Sarada Municipality, said that the people's representatives had reached every household in an attempt to raise awareness among the people on the prevention and treatment of the pandemic. “At the moment, we are identifying the infected people in the village, and the municipality is employing antigen test to do that,” he said.
Those with serious medical conditions are being taken to isolation centres where health professionals are treating them, while those with minor conditions are allowed to stay in home isolation, he added.
Seeing all these, there is no doubt that the representatives are playing the role of guardians of the people at a time of distress.
Bishnu Acharya of Darma Rural Municipality-2 said that the representatives’ visit had boosted the people’s confidence in fighting the pandemic.
