Kathmandu, July 28: The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) held a digital interaction with the ambassadors and officials working in the Nepali embassies of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka on Tuesday to discuss possible ways to promote Nepal as a tourism destination there.
Chief Executive Officer of NTB Dr. Dhananjay Regmi emphasised the need to promote Nepal as an attractive and unique place to visit among the people of South Asia and particularly those four countries and highlighted the role Nepali ambassadors can play for this.
The ambassadors shared Dr. Regmi’s view and also urged NTB should conduct activities to bring in visitors from neighbouring countries which, they said, could be major tourist sources for Nepal in the post-pandemic world.
Speaking in the interaction, Nepali Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr. Banshidhar Mishra advised the tourism body to aggressively promote Nepal to Bangladesh’s Hindu and Buddhist populations. He also highlighted the importance of enhancing connectivity between the two countries to facilitate tourism and development.
Similarly, Nepali Ambassador to Pakistan Tapas Adhikari asked NTB to develop promotional materials in native languages of the countries which could then be disseminated by the respective embassies.
Likewise, Minister Economics at the Nepali Embassy in India Nita Pokharel suggested NTB to market Nepal as an easy and accessible destination for the Indians and stress on the similarity of language, religion and culture of the two countries.
Second secretary at the Nepali embassy in Sri Lanka Biswas Bhatta stated that, in addition to promoting Lumbini - the birthplace of Lord Buddha, Nepali authorities could try bringing adventure tourists from the island nation. He also asked NTB to learn from Sri Lanka regarding the development of tourism infrastructure.
