Kathmandu, July 12: Nepal Student Union, a sister organisation of the main opposition party, Nepali Congress, organised a demonstration against price hike of petroleum products today.
From the demonstration staged at the gate of Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC), Babarmahal, NSU General Secretary Dipak Bhattarai demanded the government to control rising prices of daily essential goods including petrol in the COVID-19 lockdown which has afflicted general public much.
"Special relief package must be brought in the wake of joblessness caused by the prolonged lockdown. But the government failed on it," he said, warning of the continuation of agitation if the price hike was not rolled back.
Moreover, the NSU wondered why the management reform, control of black marketing and automatic price fixing system was not materialized at NOC.
Earlier, the NSU had submitted a memorandum to NOC General Manager Surendra Poudel four days back, demanding him to withdraw the price hike of petroleum products.
