Kathmandu, Apr.14: The National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) is preparing to launch a 10-year grand campaign of Disaster Resilience Nepal.
The 18th meeting of the NRA’s board of directors, which was chaired by Prime Minister and chairman of the board KP Sharma Oli on Tuesday, decided to start the campaign from next fiscal year.
NRA Chief Executive Officer Sushil Gyawali said that a proposal for the campaign was being prepared in collaboration with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).
The board meeting had expressed happiness over the completion of the post-earthquake reconstruction and rehabilitation works.
The meeting also proposed to prepare a proposal for the Long Term Urban Renewal Programme for the coming fiscal year, focusing on the long-term disaster management work in the entire urban area, including the ancient settlements, World Heritage Sites and especially the Kathmandu Valley.
Under the programme, the NRA is preparing a blueprint for the reconstruction of the earthquake-damaged structures and for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the private houses, public structures, property and infrastructure that are prone to future earthquakes.
The board meeting also approved the outline of the body, plan and programme and financial management to complete the basic work in the current fiscal year and hand it over for the remaining period starting from July, 2021.
Additionally, it decided to submit a proposal to the government asking for a budget of Rs. 36.35 billion for the next fiscal year.
CEO Gyawali informed that the reconstruction of the historic Dharara Tower has reached the final stage and that it would be inaugurated by the Prime Minister Oli on April 24.
