Rautahat, Oct. 20: One NGO ‘Nepal Life Settle Charity Trust’ operating in Rautahat disappeared after collecting a huge amount of money from the locals.
The NGO collected Rs.30,000 from each of the 83 households of Ishanath and Paroha Municipalites of the district. The organisation collected money promising the locals that it would construct homes for them.
The victims had registered complaints in nearby police station. Local women representatives had complained that the employees of the organisation fled the village after collecting a huge amount from poor and deprived people.
The NGO that was registered in the district office with registration number 29, 245 was also registered in Social Welfare Council.
Initially, it was told that NGO had an office in Chandranigahapur. According to Amar Ale Magar, the chief of ward-4, the NGO had not any office in his place.
A victim, Girija Devi Paswan, said that Umesh Sah of Madhavnarayan Municipality took all the collections with himself. “Rajrani Kuswah was the witness of the deal,” she added. Another victim Chameli Devi said that the NGO employees were out of touch since long. “The lure of getting a new home made us victim, we realised it only after the NGO operators fled the village,” she expressed her sorrows.
Chameli Devi, Sarada Devi, Kursat Khatun, Urmila Devi, Girija Devi Bhuliya, Devi Paitha and other women from 83 households were cheated by the organisation in the name of building new homes for them.
The victims said that they were convinced for donating Rs.30, 000 to the representatives of the organisation and they would refund Rs. 25,000 to them once the house gets completed. Police Inspector Santosh Pandey confirmed the police received complaints from the women.
