By Our Correspondent, Biratnagar, Dec. 24: Harka Bahadur Nembang (Misco) has been elected as chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) Province-1 committee.
Nembang of Panchthar district was elected to the post by garnering 169 votes. His nearest rival Muksahyang Menyangbo of Sunsari got only 64 votes. The election results were made public on Thursday evening.
The 259-member provincial committee was elected through an election on Wednesday after the party failed to elect the office-bearers unanimously.
Mani Kumar Sampang, Dewan Chamling and Shiva Kumar Dangi have been elected vice-chairpersons, according to Kiran Neupane, a member of the election committee.
Likewise, Ganesh Prasad Upreti 'Sushil' of Morang has been elected secretary with 148 votes, Rewat Raj Puri of Jhapa has been elected treasurer.
A total of 29 candidates had registered their candidacies for the nine posts of the office-bearers.
Meanwhile, the newly elected committee of CPN (MC) Bagmati Province assumed their office on Friday.
Saral Sahayatri Poudel was elected as the chairman of the committee on Tuesday through an election.
