Central member of the Nepali Congress (NC) Dr. Shekhar Koirala said on Thursday that his party would get a new leadership in the upcoming general convention.

Dr. Koirala said that youth would be given priority in the general convention of the party.

“The NC is in need of youth, which is why opportunity will be given to them,” said Koirala while speaking at a press meet organised by Nepal Press Union in Nawalpur.

“Even though Koirala family had planted the seeds of NC, the party does not solely belong to the family,” said Koirala. “Anyone form the party can become the party president,” he said.

Koirala also alleged the government to be inclining towards undemocratic system.

From totalitarian, the government is being autocratic, said Koirala. The government has attacked  people’s freedom of speech and press freedom, he said.

“If the government does not correct its behaviours, we will also be its target,” Koirala added.

While inaugurating a library in Hupsekot Municipality, Koirala also directed the party workers to be ready for decisive movement if the government did not correct  its autocratic behaviour.

Koirala said that the government had been overlooking the patience of the  NC. As a reaction to it, NC can also demonstrate on the roads, he said.

For protection of the citizens from unnecessary taxes, corruption, impunity and price hike, there’s no other option left for NC other but to take to the streets, said Koirala.

Bishnu Lamichhane, district chair of NC, leader Mahendradhwaj G.C., Omkala Gautam and Laxmi Pandey and other leaders said that unity was important for NC to move forward.
