Syangja, Jan. 10: Nepali Congress (NC) vice president Dhanraj Gurung has said that the party will contest the upcoming general elections alone.
Speaking at the office assuming programme of the newly elected district committee in Syangja on Sunday, Gurung said that NC would emerge as the first party by contesting the polls without forging alliance.
“The Nepali Congress has now strong legs and needs to walk on its own,” said Gurung.
NC is contesting the National Assembly elections of January 26 by forging alliance with the ruling coalition of five parties.
According to vice president Gurung, the coalition will end after January 26.
“The party should reach the public with its own agenda. If the current government and party members perform their duties as per public aspirations, we will not need support from others to get the votes from the citizens,” said Gurung.
“Being strict and taking action against corrupt individuals will be the best step to lead the country towards development and gaining public support simultaneously,” Gurung added.
He also urged NC party members in Syangja to work exemplarily, as in the past, there was a famous proverb that an individual should visit Syangja in order to see Nepali Congress.
“However, growing groupism has weakened the party,” he added.
A 34-member district committee was elected in the recent district convention of the NC with Raju Thapa as the district president.
