By Achyut Regmi, Kathmandu, Dec 11: Delegates who have come to Kathmandu to attend the 14th General Convention of the Nepali Congress (NC) have said that the experience of the senior leaders and the enthusiasm of the youth should be considered to strengthen the party organization.
General Convention delegate from Dhanusha Constituency No. 1 Raj Kishor Singh, during a talk on Friday at the inauguration of the 14th General Convention of the party, said that there is a need for transformation within the party to suit the 21st century.
He said that it was necessary to have a serious review within the party on why the Congress, which once had a good support base in the Terai, has become weak today. "The Congress has a history of being able to form a majority government when it can perform well in Madhes. Hence, a leader is needed that can connect the mountains, hills and the Terai," said Singh.
General Convention Representative from Lamjung Asmita Gurung says that youth and women should come forward within the party. "If the old leaders agree and hand over the leadership to the new generation, the party can become more capable and stronger," she said.
Likewise, Bishnu Bahadur Chhetri from Kaski Constituency No. 3, says not only the party but also the leadership of the country needs transformation through the strengthening of the organization with timely ideas, policies and programs.
Congress Chitwan Secretary and General Convention Representative Uttam Joshi says that there is a need for generational transfer within the party now that youth representatives have come from all over the country. The Congress should move forward with new leadership, new thinking and new style for the development of the country.
According to the party's Central Election Committee, the list of delegates has been published on Friday. Candidate nomination registration that started from 10 am will continue until 5 pm today. The first list of candidates will be published tonight from 9 to 12 pm, the time for withdrawal of nomination papers will be by 11 am on December 12, the final list of candidates will be published on the same day at 12:15 pm and voting will be held on December 13 from 8 am, said committee coordinator Gopal Krishna Ghimire.
