Morang, Mar. 31: Chief Minister of Province 1, Sherdhan Rai, has said that municipalities should carry out activities by formulating periodic plan based on scientific criteria.
Inaugurating the provincial seminar on 'Municipal Finance and Capacity Development' organised by Municipal Development Fund here today, Chief Minister Rai stressed that people should be clearly informed after reviewing the activities carried out in agro, tourism, industry, sports, social and economic sectors.
He expressed the view that resource management is fruitful for sustainability of institutional economic growth and infrastructure development of the municipality.
Saying building a new Nepal is the only one goal of federal, provincial and local government, the Chief Minister shared that the province government would collaborate with municipalities for building a beautiful country in a planned manner.
He opined that the province 1 government has forwarded activities for 'Broader Birat Area' by incorporating 18 municipalities, adding that this would help develop for tourism, and sports sector.
Similarly, Mayor of Biratnagar metropolitan City, Bhim Parajuli, mentioned that financial and technical support of the Fund for systematizing the urbanization is appraisable.
Chairperson of Municipal Association of Nepal and mayor of Bhaktapur municipality, Ashok Kumar Byanju Shrestha, deputy-mayor of Damak municipality, Geeta Adhikari, executive director of the Fund, Krishna Prasad Sapkota, also expressed their view.
The Fund has been carrying out activities on different projects like urban drinking water and sanitation project, integrated urban environment improvement project, urban infrastructure development project, among others.
It has set a target to invest Rs 20 billion in different projects in coming four years and 1,200 projects are in operation in the province with the support of the Fund.
