Bhaktapur, Feb 2: Most of slaughterhouses in Bhaktapur Municipality are found to be unhygienic in view of consumer’s health.
During a monitoring conducted by the Bhaktapur Municipality today, most of slaughter houses were found to be dirty and thus supplying unhygienic meat. Abattoirs at Hanumanghat, Maheshwori areas were monitored, said Municipality's market monitoring coordinator Raj Krishna Gora.
The facilities were found poorly managed. Walls and floor of the facilities are not tiled and marbled, they lack a proper water drainage system, use non-purified water, pay no attention to cleanliness and avoid the health test of animals before slaughtering. It means they are not complying the standards set by the government for the operation of slaughter house.
Some of suppliers were found not renewing the registration and updating the weighing machines. They have been instructed to meet all required standards within the next three days, it is said.
