Kathmandu, Oct. 7: Meteorologists have forecast that the monsoon will formally end in Nepal in the next three or four days if a new weather system that is being developed in India does not have a strong influence.
According to Manju Basi, a meteorologist at the Meteorological Forecasting Division under the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DHM), the impact of the low pressure area in the northwestern part of the Bay of Bengal is likely to recede from tomorrow (Wednesday), but another new system (low pressure area) is being developed.
"It doesn't seem so strong," meteorologist Basi told The Rising Nepal on Tuesday. "If it doesn't have a strong effect, the monsoon is likely to withdraw from Nepal within three or four days."
According to meteorologists, the monsoon had already ended from the western region of Nepal, i.e. from Sudurpaschim State to State No. 5 from last Thursday. But, the effect of monsoon or low pressure is still there in the eastern part of State 1, she said. As a result, the weather is changing and causing light rain in some areas of eastern Nepal.
Normally, the monsoon ends on September 23 in Nepal but for the past few years, the day for monsoon withdrawal is getting delayed. This year, monsoon in Nepal began on June 10. During the withdrawal period of the monsoon this year, most parts of the country received heavy and continuous rains for three to four days. Senior meteorologist Barun Kumar Poudel said that pre-winter begins after the monsoon formally ends in Nepal.
According to him, October and November are considered pre-winter periods. But even on October 6, the monsoon has not come to an end yet. He said that winter will start from December.
Meanwhile, a regular weather bulletin issued by the MFD till Thursday mentioned that there is a possibility of light to moderate rain in State 1, 2 and Bagmati on Wednesday afternoon and one or two places in Gandaki State.
There is also a chance of light rain in one or two places of State 1, 2, and Bagmati State on Thursday afternoon, and possibility of light rain in the night time in State 1 while the other regions will remain generally fair.
