Kathmandu, Dec. 17: Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security, Krishna Kumar Shrestha, has laid emphasis on the need of formulating a separate policy to address the problems of Nepali migrant workers in India.

At a programme organised by International Organisation of Migrants (IOM) on the occasion of International Migrants Day, 2021 here Friday, Minister Shrestha pointed out the need of making a separate policy, plan and programme to address the problems facing millions of Nepali migrant workers in India.

He shared that the government has been making preparation to review the existing policy relating to foreign employment by keeping the welfare of migrant workers in centre. Feedbacks are being collected from stakeholders and experts in order to make foreign employment policy timely, Minister Shrestha shared.

Stating that the government has the policy to make labour force - the backbone of the economy- productive and competitive, the Minister mentioned that the government was for policy-level and structural-level reforms to make foreign employment safe, dignified and result-oriented.

He further said problems faced by Nepali workers in the international labour market due to COVID-19 pandemic would be addressed immediately.

As the number of people coming to work in Nepal from different countries is gradually increasing, attention should also be paid to protect their rights and interests, opined Minister Shrestha.
