Kathmandu, Nov. 23: Head of the Department of Anthropology Dr. Dambar Chemjong Friday handed over the report of the committee he coordinated to study the impact of the Naya Nepal language pages of the Gorkhapatra daily to Gorkhapatra Corporation (GC).
Receiving the report, Executive Chairman of the Corporation Krishna Murari Bhandary praised the work of the team carried out as per the agreement between the corporation and the department of the Tribhuvan University.
Chairman Bhandary said the report would give the Corporation a roadmap to ensure the language pages reach the concerned communities.
Dr. Chemjong summarised the findings of the study and said they were essentially the same as those submitted to the Corporation by its sub-committee earlier after interactions and interviews with leaders of language communities.
“In addition to the language users’ population-based suggestions, we have also tried to accommodate the concerns of the respondents in the report,” he said.
Team members Dr. Taramani Rai and Kumar Bibekananda Mishra also shared their views about the work with advisors of the Corporation and chief editors of the Corporation dailies.
The Corporation had formed the committee about six months ago to look into the possibilities of rearranging the language pages and their regions and frequencies of publication to make their impact felt in the linguistic communities.
The Gorkhapatra daily has been publishing the language pages for the last 12 years. It publishes the pages in more than 38 languages from its National and Biratnagar editions.
