Kathmandu, Sept. 29: Many schools of Kathmandu have resumed in-person classes since Sunday after the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) allowed them to do that. However, still a few schools are giving continuity to virtual classes keeping in mind the fast approaching Dashain festival.
Almost all community schools and a few middle-level private schools have started running classes in the physical presence of teachers and students. However, bigger private schools, especially those whose virtual classes have been effective, have not resumed physical classes.

“Schools which don't have effective virtual classes have already started physical classes, but those which are running effective virtual classes have decided to give continuity to them till Dashain,” said Bhishma Pandey, Kathmandu Metropolitan City's coordinator of the National Private and Boarding School Association Nepal (NPABSAN).
Those schools facing trouble to collect fee have also started classes in physical presence. However, the big schools which have not faced such problems have decided to continue virtual classes, Pandey added.
Ritu Raj Subedi, chairperson of the NPABSAN, said many schools were not resuming classes for only two weeks because many children are in their home districts.

The KMC, the Lalitpur Metropolitan City and other municipalities of Kathmandu Valley decided that schools can resume physical classes now by ensuring that the health protocols are strictly followed by all school staffers and students.
However, many have called the local governments' decision to resume physical classes impractical and irresponsible as schools will be closed in less than two weeks for Dashain holidays.

Likewise, health experts said still there was a risk of virus spread as active cases of COVID-19 were still high.
Over 365,000 students study in 731 educational institutions in the Kathmandu Metropolitan City.
Almost all local governments across the country have already decided to resume physical classes.
