Kathmandu, May 16 : Chairperson of Federation of Nepali Journalists, Channel Nepal Pratishtan Unit Shanti Ram Karki has died of COVID-19. He was 34 years old.
Soon after testing positive to Corona Virus on May 2 he was admitted to the Manmohan memorial hospital in Swayambhu, Kathmandu. He was then put on ventilator support after his condition deteriorated four days later on May 2. He passed away at 8:00 pm Saturday.
A resident of Jhapa district, Karki was active in journalism since the past 15 years. Editor of Janatatimes.com, Karki was central member of Press Chautari.
Chair of Press Chautari Ganesh Basnet and General Secretary of Federation of Nepali Journalists Roshan Puri have expressed shock over the demise of Karki, while wishing eternal peace of the departed soul and condolences to the members of the bereaved family.
According to latest data, so far 13 journalists have died of COVID-19 while more than 750 have been infected with Corona Virus.
