Kathmandu, Nov. 7
Following the order of Supreme Court (SC), Nepal Police (NP) has arrested industrialist Roop Jyoti. He has been accused of defrauding Rs. 30 million in a transaction with a housing company.
He was arrested from Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA) on Thursday evening while returning from Singapore, said Uttam Raj Subedi, Superintendent of Police, Metropolitan Police Range, Teku.
In December 2018, Birendra Krishna Malla had lodged complaint against Jyoti, on the basis of which, Metropolitan Police Range, had issued arrest warrant against him.
Malla had complained that he had given Rs. 30 million to Landmark Developers Private Limited, a company established by Jyoti, to buy houses in Budhanilkantha which the latter didn't return.
Jyoti had filed a writ petition in SC immediately after issuance of arrest warrant against him, which stopped NP from arresting him.
SC ordered NP to arrest Jyoti today.
Jyoti, Vice Chair of Jyoti Group is one of the renowned industrialists in Nepal.
