The man who was killed in a police shootout at Krishnanagar in Kapilbastu district today has been confirmed as an Indian national. The deceased, whose identity is yet to be known, was from Siddharthnagar district, India. The police had opened fire into a demonstration launched by the local people defying a curfew, killing a protestor.
The curfew was imposed in Krishnanagar on Wednesday after the local people clashed over a dispute while immersing idols of Goddess Laxmi used for the Laxmipuja festival. A large number of the people from India is suspected to have entered Nepal in a bid to incite the clashes.
