Kathmandu, Dec 4 : People with disabilities and the institutions pitching for the rights and welfare of disable people were aided and honoured on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3.
The Kathmandu chapter of the Human Rights and Peace Society (HURPES) supported Rs 15,000 in cash to five persons with disabilities of a family in Bouddha.
HURPES chair Uttam Pudasaini and other office-bearers handed over the aid to the persons with disabilities amidst a programme on Thursday.
Earlier on November 20, HURPES had aided Rs 15,000 in cash to Sunaulo Paila Pariwar Kathmandu, an organization working for the protection of helpless children, coinciding the occasion of International Child Rights Day.
Likewise, the Dang chapter of HURPES honoured Roshan Giri in recognition of his struggle for the rights of persons with disabilities.
On the occasion, HURPES Rupandehi chapter provided white lane, food stuffs and vegies to Lumbini orphan home for disabled and visually impaired people based in Butwal sub-metropolis-15.
On behalf of HURPES, its central senior vice-chair Govidna Khanal, central member Lal Prasad Pangeni, chapter chair Dhanapati Khanal, joint secretary Kapil Gyawali and treasurer Krishna Bhattarai had handed over the assistance to the individuals and institutions.
HURPES Dang chapter also provided food stuffs, educational materials and cash to some helpless children on the same occasion.
Likewise, HURPES has handed over 400 books including 300 books of its founder president Krishna Pahadi and 100 books of the organization itself to Kailali-based Tikapur community library.
Earlier too, Pahadi had distributed his dozens of clothes to different social organizations.
HURPES chair Pudasaini informed that the organization has made preparation to stage demonstrations before the Kathmandu-based embassies of the United States, Russia, China, the United Kingdom, France, India, Pakistan, North Korea and Israel at 12.00 noon on coming December 10 calling for ratification of Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons this year.
