Kathmandu, Jan. 16: The government has met the revenue target for the month of Poush (mid-December to mid-Janauary) and has lowered the gap for the half-yearly target with almost 42.5 billion revenue collection in a single day on Tuesday.
Both the tax and non-tax revenue collection witnessed a significant increases on the last day of the month and the government achieved the target of Rs. 135 billion revenue for Poush.
According to the Financial Comptroller General Office (FCGO), Rs. 42.46 billion revenue and Rs. 2.3 billion other receipts were collected on Tuesday.
With this the total income of the government by the end of the first six month has reached Rs. 459.64 billion. This is 39.28 per cent of the total revenue target.
Finance Minister Dr. Yuba Raj Khatiwada had aimed at collecting Rs. 1112 billion revenue in the current Fiscal Year 2019/20.
However, the there is still Rs. 78 billion gap between the revenue target and collection.
The revenue collection trend was improved in the last days of the sixth month of the current fiscal. On Monday, the collection was Rs. 19 billion while just Rs. 5.41 billion was collected on Sunday.
Spokesperson of the Ministry of Finance Uttar Kumar Khatri said that the growth trend of revenue had been increasing as compared to the previous months. “Efforts have been intensified to meet the revenue as well as expenditure targets,” he said.
Similarly, total government expenditure is Rs. 400 billion till Tuesday which is just 24 per cent of the total budget of Rs. 1664 billion.
Utilisation of capital budget has continuously been poor with just 13.7 per cent expenditure while recurrent budget is used as much as Rs. 32.35 per cent.
The size of capital and recurrent budget is Rs. 408 billion and 957 billion respectively.
