Kathmandu, Sept. 30: Newly appointed Executive Chairman of Gorkhapatra Corporation Bishnu Prasad Subedi assumed office at the Corporation on Wednesday.
He was welcomed by the outgoing Acting General Manager and Chief Editor of Gorkhapatra Daily, Shiva Kumar Bhattarai, department heads and editors of different publications.
Speaking at the welcome programme, Executive Chairman Subedi said that he would try his best to make the publications of the Corporation smart and digitally advanced.
“As Gorkhapatra is the publication of the nation and not of any particular political party, I will work to make sure that the publications are not merely the mouthpiece of the government,” he said.
Assuming his office, he said methods and technologies required to be extensively improved. “This is not possible only with my efforts. Support and cooperation are essential from all the staff of the Corporation.”
Gorkhapatra should be developed into a glorious organisation and a credible and professional journalism institution which will enhance the security and career of GC journalists and beauty of journalism, he said.
Talking about the regulations, Chairman Subedi said that he would work as per the rules and regulations for the moral development of all the staff of the Corporation.
He said that it was the responsibility of Gorkhapatra to take the new policies and programmes of the government to the people. He said that his main goal would be to upgrade Gorkhapatra daily and other publications. He also urged the employees to work within the limits and scope of Corporation.
Outgoing Acting General Manager of the Corporation and Chief Editor of the Gorkhapatra daily Bhattarai said that the Corporation would make a positive stride with the knowledge and experience of Executive Chairman Subedi.
A Cabinet meeting held on Monday had appointed Subedi as the Executive Chairman of the Corporation. The position had remained vacant after the then Executive Chairman Krishna Murari Bhandari tendered his resignation on July 26.
Subedi, who has been active in professional journalism for more than two decades, had previously worked as a Digital Editor and in other
capacities with Himalaya Times, Annapurna Post and Nepal Samaya, among others.
