Kathmandu, Mar. 29: The historic Gaddi Baithak, a part of the Hanumandhoka Durbar Square, is reopening to the public from Wednesday after its restoration. The historically significant Palace, which was open for the general public for the first time on November 27, 2019, was closed after the lockdown.
Sandeep Khanal, executive director of Hanumandhoka Durbar Museum Development Committee, said that the palace would reopen for general public after formally announcing its reopening to the public by organising a special function on Tuesday.
The palace which was damaged in 2015's devastating earthquake was renovated with the funding from the US government in collaboration with the Department of Archaeology, Hanumandhoka Museum Development Committee and the Kathmandu Metropolitan City.
The American government had provided USD 900,000 to structurally strengthen the Gaddi Baithak and its gateway.
Gaddi Baithak is an important part of Hanumandhoka Durbar Square where the new kings used to be crowned and where the then royalties used to welcome the heads of state and government.
