By Bishnu Pandey, Kathmandu, Sep. 29: The risk of novel coronavirus infection in vaccinated people cannot be eliminated. However, the infection seen in the inoculated people is not of serious nature, the health experts say.

According to Dr. Samir Kumar Adhikari, assistant spokesperson at the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), no serious impact of COVID-19 has been seen in fully vaccinated people. He also said that the COVID-19 fatality rate among the vaccinated group was less.

"According to the information provided to us by the hospitals, only a few cases of COVID-19 death of vaccinated persons have been reported until now," he added.

Similarly, Dr. Anup Bastola, director at Sukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital, Teku, said that the hospital had not recorded any serious case of COVID-19 in those patients who have already received the full dose of vaccine.

"Having said that, everyone must keep in mind that vaccination does not rule out coronavirus infection," he said, adding, "The chances of fatality is low in vaccinated people."

Dr. Bastola said that around 30 to 40 per cent of COVID-19 patients visiting Teku Hospital were vaccinated. "It has been found that the inoculated patients recover quickly in comparison to the patients who have not been jabbed," he said.

According to Dr. Niraj Bam, 30 to 40 per cent of virus-infected patients are fully vaccinated in TU Teaching Hospital as well. He said that serious symptoms of COVID-19 were not detected in them.

"The prevalence of highly infectious delta variant could be the reason why vaccinated people are also being infected," said Dr. Bam.

Meanwhile, Dr. Krishna Prasad Poudel, spokesperson at the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) said that only 13 per cent of the people being infected with the virus were found to be vaccinated.

"Only 13 per cent of the 762,416 people who have tested positive for COVID-19 are vaccinated," he said, adding that the figure was ascertained on the basis of information provided by various laboratories nationwide.
