Chitwan, Dec. 11: Flights in Bharatpur Airport, which had been shut for last 10 days for runway maintenance work, have resumed from Wednesday.
After the condition of runway, blacktopped 20 years ago, started deteriorating, the flights in the airport were suspended from December 1-10.
Pawan Kumar Gautam, chief, Civil Aviation Authority, Bharatpur, said, “After completion of overlapping the runway, the usual flights have resumed from today.”
The runway, taxi-way and hangers of the airport have been renovated and overlaid.
Gautam said that the maintenance of the Airport was done in view of the Visit Nepal Year 2020.
“Most of the works relating to parking of airport have been done, only petty works are remaining,” Gautam said.
We shouldn’t worry about the weakening of runway for next 10 years now, he added.
Almost 60mm pitch has been laid while overlaying the Airport. Also, the 70/70 metres parking has been increased to 90/80 metres.
Jyoti Thapa, engineer, Civil Aviation Authority, said that budget of around Rs. 100 million was allocated for the maintenance of the airport.
