Kathmandu, Jun 1: The five-year National Peace and Martyr’s Park project of Gokarneshwor Municipality has not completed even in about 10 years.
Work on the project had not moved ahead satisfactorily right from the beginning and the project officials had several excuses to justify the delay like the time wasted to get approval of the Forest Ministry to remove 475 trees, Indian blockade of 2015, leadership change in the ministry and the ongoing lockdown.
The construction of the probably the largest martyr memorial park of the county has been underway which will document facts and materials related to all the heroes who laid down their lives for the nation and people.
Sudarshan Sigdel, chairman of the park construction task force committee, said 70 per cent of construction work completed while 58 per cent of the budget was spent in 10 years.The constriction work of the park had begun in 2012 and was expected to complete by 2016. The park has covered an area of approximately 650 ropanis of land. It has been constructing to keep the records of all martyrs of Nepal from the Rana regime to the April Uprising of 2006, he said.
Still now, construction works are not moving in a satisfactory manner due to the shortage of manpower caused by the lockdown. Only three of the four contractors are working at the site, he said Sigdel said that the memorial park had been divided into four sections, memorial area, entertainment area, institutional area and religious area.
Martyr monuments, peace pyramid, museum, civil servant memorial and peace Stupa have been constructed in the memorial area. The entertainment area will have picnic spots, deer park and flower garden.
Institutional sections will have restaurants, community police beat, information centre, a view tower, gift shops, skill development centre, training centre and research centre.
The government has allocated Rs 427.1 million for the construction of the park.
