Kathmandu, Dec 2 : The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has started updating the details of the public and community libraries throughout the country.
The Ministry started this project in collaboration with READ Nepal and New Era. It is believed that the collection of the details will support in capacity enhancement, strengthening and proper management of such libraries across the country.
Likewise, it will also assist the three tiers of the government to draw up the required policy and prepare relevant programmes for library development.
The Library Coordination Section at the Ministry has requested the public and community libraries to fill up online questionnaire and submit the same to it by December 30. It has also urged the local governments to extend cooperation by carrying out monitoring of this initiative at the local level.
There are about 1,000 community libraries in the country. It is said that promoting the reading culture and increasing the number of library users with the use of technology is challenging in Nepal's context.
