Kathmandu, Jan. 22: District Administration Offices, DAOs, across the country have begun cutting down services and imposing restrictions in light of the latest wave of COVID-19 in the country.
The Administration Offices of the three districts of Kathmandu Valley, Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur, have all suspended non-essential services because of the infection of staff members. “Many employees working in various sections of the office have contracted COVID-19 and are currently in home isolation,” they have stated in their respective statements, “That is why all non-essential services shall remain suspended until further notice.”
Through their latest order issued on Thursday, they have also extended the ban on public gatherings and crowds and have also closed down cinema halls, casinos, clubs, pubs, gyms, sports grounds, museums, libraries, covered halls, markets, educational institutions and have also introduced the odd-even rule for public and private vehicles. Additionally, they have also prohibited all but the daily worship at temples and other religious places.
Meanwhile, the District Administration Office of Tanahun has issued a 26-point order to curb the spread of the coronavirus in the district.
The order, which came into effect from Wednesday midnight, bans all large public gatherings, rallies and protests and urges everyone to hold seminars, meetings and workshops virtually, our Tanahun correspondent reports. Just like in the valley, it has also closed down cinema halls, dance bars and night clubs, among other entertainment businesses.
The District Administration Office of Kavrepalanchowk has also decided to suspend all non-essential services from Sunday because its employees have become infected. According to Assistant Chief District Officer Amar Deep Sunuwar, the office will not provide citizenship, passport, national identity card and arms and ammunition-related services from Sunday to Friday.
The District Administration of Palpa has also introduced suspended many of its services for much the same reasons.
Namobuddha Municipality of Kavre and Shuklagandaki Municipality of Tanahun have also shut all their services except for emergency ones as many of their employees have tested positive for the coronavirus.
