Disabled, chronically ill get social security allowance at their doorsteps

Kavre, Aug. 3: People living with disabilities and chronic illness in Namobuddha Municipality of Kavre district have heaved a sigh of relief after the municipal office has started providing them social security allowance at their doorsteps.
Considering the hardship faced by such people in visiting the banks to receive their monthly allowance, the municipality has started to provide the door-to-door service.
Shyam Khanal, chief of the social security department under the municipality, said after chronically ill and those with severe disabilities complained of difficulties in collecting social security allowance from banks, they have started providing monthly benefits to them at their doorsteps. According to him, the office has been using mobile banking to provide the service.
Beneficiaries were elated upon receiving their lump sum allowance of four months at their doorsteps, said Khanal.
A team led by staff of Lumbini Development Bank reached the villages of Ward No. 2 and provided the service to 20 people, he said, adding that the service would gradually be expanded to other wards of the municipality.
A total of 3,291 people of the municipality are eligible to get the social security allowance. Among them, 1,902 are senior citizens aged above 70 years, who are eligible to receive monthly allowance of Rs. 3,000 and 121 are Dalits aged between 60 and 69 years who receive monthly Rs. 2,000.
Similarly, there are 393 single women aged above 60 years who receive Rs. 2,000 and 71 people with severe disability who receive Rs. 3,000 on a monthly basis.
Likewise, 75 people living with partial disability are receiving Rs. 1,600 and 227 Dalit children (aged below five years) are receiving Rs. 400.
