Baglung, Sept 10 : Flooding victims at Bobang of Dhorpatan municipality-9 in the district are struggling to pay the debts borrowed to run a business.
On September 2, a flooded Bhujikhola gushed into the settlements near the river banks wherein over a dozen people were killed and over 41 went missing. Around three dozen houses were destroyed completely in the disaster.
Hem Bahadur BK, a flooding victim, ran a retail store with the money he borrowed from a landlord.
However, his store was damaged by the flooding. "Those who have survived the flooding by fleeing are now in tension as they have got their business damaged by the disaster. I am worried about how to pay the debt as the place where I lived has turned into river banks. I cannot have a good sleep as a result," he bemoaned.
He has taken out a more than 1.8 million loan to run his business. Like BK, there are many who have borrowed money to run businesses and are now left high and dry as their business has been damaged by the devastating flooding. they are worried how to pay back their loan.
