Kathmandu, Dec. 16: Defense Minister Dr Minendra Rijal has announced his resignation from the post of Minister.
Minister Rijal, who is in the fray for the post of General Secretary at the 14th General Convention of the Nepali Congress, has announced his resignation in view of the preliminary results.
Writing the status on Facebook, he has mentioned that he will submit his resignation to Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba as soon as the results of the vote count are received.
"I have decided to resign from the post of Minister of Defense in view of the clear message received from the preliminary results of the post of General Secretary I contested in the 14th General Convention of the Nepali Congress," Minister Rijal wrote on Facebook.
According to the poll results, Rijal is in the fifth position. General Secretary candidate Gagan Thapa has got the highest number of votes while Bishwaprakash Sharma is in the second position. Pradip Poudel is in the third position while Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat is in the fourth position.
